The sun is shining on

The sun is shining on Deepest Dorset. I am at home with the Little Horse. A Haydn string quartet is playing. And on this day in 1998 the first entry to this on-line Diary was posted, setting in motion a series of consequences and repercussions yet to be realised, recognised or discovered.

From an e-mail to a Brainy Pal:

<Popular culture is being taken increasingly seriously, if only because the present generation of academics have been touched as powerfully by their experiences with rock music as with Beethoven. This validates the "lesser music form" as a bearer of the transcendental and this requires explanation by those with the "proper qualifications" to carry weight within the world of academic discourse. This is a slow and ponderous world but ripples move out from it where the academic treatise is based on genuine insight and perception, rather than the re-arrangement of facts. Go for it!>
